Meet The FlapJacked Team: Nick (Graphic Designer)

Meet Nick, our graphic design expert. Though his day-to-day focus is on brand, packaging, and marketing support, he's also helped with fixing toilets, designing our trade show exhibits, and has racked up a fair share of miles behind the wheel of the FlapJacked van. Needless to say, we wouldn't be a functional machine without him!

Q: If you were stuck on an island with only 3 possessions, what would they be?
A: To take a utilitarian approach, I’d have to say a 16’ Hobie Cat, a good multi-tool, and a lemon tree would be top on my list.

Q: What's your go-to FlapJacked hack?
A: I’m a big fan of adding a serving of MCT oil along with a little extra water to my mighty muffins and then under cook them a few seconds for an extra gooey cup of goodness.

Q: If you were an animal, which animal would you be?
A: I think I’d be an otter. They are good swimmers, eat clams by using a rock as a tool, and they sleep holding hands with each other while floating. Seems like the life to me.

Q: What are some interesting facts about you?
There was a time in my life where I wanted to be a tattoo artist or a custom car painter and pinstriper. I’ve also demoed an entire house, and even built a custom motorcycle in the basement of my fraternity for one of my best friends.

Q: What is your best FlapJacked memory?
A: Although the “mandatory-not-mandatory” team hike last summer is up there, I’d have to say my fondest memory is of when the whole team rallied together to push out two new products, fully redesigned packaging, and an impressive booth to showcase it all at Expo West 2017. I think that series of efforts is a good example of our FlapJacked spirit!

Q: Have you ever danced in the rain?
A: Yes, next question.

Q: What's your favorite quote?
A: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. - Mark Twain

Q: What's your favorite way to stay active?
A: Adventuring outside and staying busy with side projects seem to do the trick. It’s harder for me to work out consistently without one sport to specifically train for, but I’ve slowly been making strides to change that.

Q: What's your favorite part about living in Colorado?
A: Growing up in the Midwest, I always wanted to move west to have the mountains in my back yard. So that led me out to Washington and Idaho where I truly enjoyed the solitude you could readily find in the surrounding wilderness. Family is important to me and what makes living in Colorado my favorite is that I have the same proximity to mountain activities all while affording me the convenience to drive or get a nonstop flight back to Chicago to visit my family.
